Year 1

 

Aims

 

 

Year 1 is the start of Key Stage 1 and develops the children's skills learnt in

the Foundation Stage.

Lesson in Maths encourage the children to become competent in counting
within 20 and then 100.  They learn to double and halve numbers, look for
patterns in counting and learn to count in 2's, 5's and 10's.  They learn about
Shapes and Measures using practical materials and develop their confidence
in problem solving and recording their work.

In English the children develop their reading skills, through Guided
reading and reading a wider range of books.  They learn about different
types of writing and become more confident writers, learning to express
their ideas.
